SDG 7: Emotional Intelligence For Beginners

Hi friend,

I hope you’ve had a good start to 2025.
Without wasting any time, let’s get right to this issue’s food for thought.

We’ve started this year on a very productive note by zeroing in on Emotional Intelligence.

You can be a master at your job—no one else could do it as well as you. But being a good team leader is more about building meaningful relationships than you might think.

EQ is better than IQ as a predictor of success especially at work

When team members like each other, they collaborate eagerly, discuss ideas for the organisation’s benefit, and support each other’s weaknesses.

Can you learn or teach emotional intelligence? Absolutely yes.

But hold on, why the hell should you care about it?

Here’s why: It accounts for 90% of the difference between average and exceptional performers.

Divisions of managers who were emotionally intelligent, outperformed yearly earnings by 20%.

People with better emotional quotient are more likely to succeed at work when compared to intelligence quotient. Even kids who are trained in programs offering social and emotional learning opportunities had lesser suspension rates, attended school more often and were more disciplined.

You get a better and happier team environment along with increased productivity and profitability. Can you ask for more when it comes to work?

There are five components of emotional intelligence – self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills. Each requires a carefully directed approach to improve on.
